Frequently asked questions

What happens during a switchgear infrared scan? +

We use a thermal camera to identify hot connections, overloaded feeder lugs, and failing breakers. Anything running 15°F+ hotter than baseline gets flagged. We provide a report with photos and recommendations (tighten lugs, upsize conductors, replace breaker).

Why do you exercise switchgear breakers if they're not tripping? +

Breakers that haven't been operated for years can stick. Exercising (manually opening/closing) keeps the mechanism free and verifies the mechanism works. We trip-test breakers selectively in a controlled manner — critical for safety and OSHA compliance.

How does switchgear cleaning help prevent electrical faults? +

Dust, oil mist, and corrosion on internal breaker contacts increase resistance and heat. Cleaning and lubricating mechanisms prevents sticking, reduces wear, and improves electrical conductivity. Annual cleaning extends switchgear life by 10–20 years.
