Frequently asked questions
Can a video doorbell replace a full intercom system? +
For single-family homes, yes. For multi-tenant buildings or gated communities with dozens of units, you need a proper intercom directory with per-unit call routing. We install both — and integrate video doorbells with smart-home apps when appropriate.
Do intercoms work over WiFi or do they need wired runs? +
Modern IP intercoms use PoE (single Cat6 run powers and connects). Older 2-wire analog intercoms still work but lack mobile integration. For new installs, we recommend PoE — simpler wiring, cloud features, and remote unlock from your phone.
Can intercoms unlock the door remotely? +
Yes. We wire the intercom to an electric strike or maglock, then configure the system to release the door from inside (button) or from a mobile app (remote visitor). Code-required egress hardware stays independent of the intercom for emergencies.
