Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my service entrance cable is damaged? +

Signs of trouble: cracks in the weatherhead, aluminum corrosion, water pooling, or sagging cable. Over 20 years, UV, heat, and ice stress the sheathing. If you see damage, call us for a free walk-through; a failing service entrance is a fire risk.

Why is aluminum service entrance cable a problem? +

Aluminum oxidizes faster than copper, increasing resistance and heat. Over time, this causes loose connections and potential fires at the meter or lugs. If your 1970s–1980s home has aluminum SE, we recommend upgrade to copper or a new meter base.

Does SE cable replacement mean power outage? +

Yes — we coordinate a 4–8 hour disconnect with Georgia Power, usually same day. We pull the permit, complete the swap, and Georgia Power re-energizes you. If you also upgrade the panel or add a surge SPD, we do that during the outage window.
