Frequently asked questions

Can access control work without an internet connection? +

Yes. Most cloud-managed systems (Brivo, Salto, etc.) cache credentials locally. If internet drops, card readers still work but audit logs sync when connection returns. Fully offline systems exist but are older. Modern systems are cloud-first with offline fallback.

How do you choose between badge, fob, mobile, or biometric access? +

Cards/fobs are traditional and cheap ($3–$10/unit). Mobile is convenient but requires smartphones. Biometric (fingerprint, face) is secure but slow. We usually recommend tiered: badges for main staff, mobile for execs, biometric for high-security areas.

What does an access control audit log show? +

Every successful unlock, failed attempt, door-held-open alarm, and tampering event — timestamped. Useful for security reviews and investigations. Cloud systems let you export reports by user, door, or date range. We set up alerts (unauthorized access, door left open 5+ min).
