Frequently asked questions

What's the advantage of a VFD over a simple across-the-line motor starter? +

A VFD can control acceleration and speed, while an across-the-line starter applies full voltage immediately. Suitability depends on the motor, load, process and control requirements.

How does a VFD compare with a soft starter? +

A soft starter manages starting and stopping but does not provide the same continuous speed control as a VFD. Equipment and process requirements must be reviewed before selecting either option.

Do VFDs require special wiring or panel upgrades? +

VFDs should be in their own dedicated cabinet near the motor, separate from main control panel to avoid noise/EMI issues. If your panel is at the other end of the building, we run shielded cabling. We coordinate with your integrator to size input/output terminals.
